The Carolina Panthers finally got one in the win column on Sunday afternoon, using a furious second half comeback to defeat the slumping Washington Redskins 20-17. Washington led 17-2 early in the third quarter before Carolina scored the final 18 points of the game to earn the victory. Jonathan Stewart's eight yard fourth quarter run for a touchdown with a successful two point conversion completed the Panthers comeback. Carolina improved to 1-3 on the season while Washington dropped to 2-3.

Manchester City's quest for Premier League glory got off to a stunning start earlier this week after the Sky Blues secured a 4-0 win over Swansea City, one of the three teams promoted last season from the Championship. The victory at Eastlands was made all the more impressive for the seamless manner in which a couple of new faces worked their way into the team, with Gael Clichy at left-back playing with real confidence and Sergio Aguero instantly finding himself a hero among the home fans with a couple of debut goals.

United fans have already had to deal with the loss of one highly rated midfielder, with Englishman Paul Scholes retiring at the end of last season, and now Park Ji-Sung has revealed he wants to do the same, but not for a while yet. The Korean midfielder signed for United back in 2005 from PSV Eindhoven and seems content to finish his playing career at Old Trafford. Despite recent speculation surrounding his future, the midfielder has confirmed that he doesn't want to seek a different challenge elsewhere, Park revealing: "I want to stay here and I have no reason to leave."

The often maligned Indianapolis Colts defense matched the ferocity of their Jacksonville Jaguars counterparts play for play, and one touchdown pass from Peyton Manning proved to be enough to earn victory by a 14-12 margin in the NFL season opener for both teams. The victory was Manning's 118th in a Colts uniform, tying the legendary Johnny Unitas for the franchise lead. Unitas, of course, was the personification of the franchise during their years in Baltimore.

The Washington Redskins are a mess right now. Head coach Jim Zorn has a tenuous hold on his job at best and after Sunday's---6 loss to Kansas City was stripped of his offensive play calling duties. Management installed newly hired 'offensive consultant' Sherman Lewis as the new offensive play caller and the team has set up an awkward arrangement for him to get the plays to the quarterbacks. For that reason, starting QB Jason Campbell has some serious misgivings about the efficacy of the setup.

Things looked good for the host Falcons at the end of the first quarter, as they'd held the #6 ranked Broncos scoreless and were right in the thick of things in a scoreless game. It was all downhill from that point for Bowling Green, as Boise State exploded for 29 unanswered second quarter points. The Broncos would eventually win 49-14.

BYU's BCS hopes went down hard on Saturday, as the Cougars were no match for the superior team speed of Florida State. Looking nothing like the team that had struggled against FCS Jacksonville State the week before, the Seminoles used 23 second quarter points to blow open the game and went on to defeat BYU 54-28. The opportunistic Florida State defense forced BYU into committing 5 turnovers, and Seminoles QB Christian Ponder threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the blowout victory on the Cougars home field.
